Barry Sheehan is an American sculptor and mixed media artist. “I create figures based on both ancient and modern styles to create a universal appeal. My sculptures are everyone.” I started carving wood when I was six. I used to carve and build outrigger canoes including the sails and rigging. I would sail them down the creek, unfortunately I then pretended to be the cyclops from the odyssey and smash them with rocks. In college I started blacksmithing and worked as a professional for twenty eight years. My years of this work enabled me to become a master craftsman. This history has enabled me to be fearless with any media. I have gone back to mixed media and carving wood again, but not being the cyclops. Yet.
